American Baptist Women
Arco
Baptist Women (ABW) is an active
participant
in association, state, and national
organizations
of the American Baptist Women’s
Ministries,
of the American Baptist Churches USA.
Our local group meets monthly on the
second Saturday
of each month at 11:00 AM. Our meeting
is followed
by a potluck luncheon.
Two of our major mission efforts center
around White Cross and Love Gift. White
Cross work supports our missionaries
around the world. This year we sent
roller bandages to the Congo hospitals,
Gifts of the Heart (School kits, Health
Kits and Baby Layettes) to be used in
destructive situations such as floods,
hurricanes and fires. We also made cash
gifts to several mission centers
overseas. With the participation of all
of our church family, we sent Christmas
gifts of clothing, school supplies, toys
and personal hygiene supplies to the
Alaska Children’s Services in Anchorage.
Our
Love Gift is an offering that is above
and beyond any other giving, These funds
help in many areas of our wider church
efforts.
Mission is our main theme. We keep in
touch with missionaries around the
globe, as well as those here in USA. We
support a Nursing Home Ministry in
Portland, Oregon. Locally, we support
the food bank and Vacation Bible School,
and other needs that come up.
Each year our state “dues” are sent to
the state treasurer. These pay for
subscriptions to The Gems,
expenses for state officers, our annual
conference at
Cathedral Pines,
and a scholarship fund for post high
school students.
Two fund-raisers a year help us with
expenses. We sell RADA cutlery year
round and at the Festival of Trees. Once
a year we hold a huge rummage sale.
All women of the church are invited to
participate in our gatherings and to
learn more of the mission opportunities
we have to serve God’s children, all in
the name of Jesus.
